The Witness (pt Spanish "The Witness") is an video game 3D belonging to the genre puzzle game created by Jonathan Blow, developed and published by Thekla, Inc. The Witness was released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 on January 26, 2016, with the version for iOS scheduled for a later date.

Inspired by mystery, The Witness has the player explore an open world on an island filled with a variety of natural and man-made structures. The player progresses by solving puzzles based on interactions with mazes displayed on panels scattered across the island. The rules and solutions for these individual mazes are part of the mysteries players must unravel, learning them through visual cues found around the island and audio logs they can discover. The gameplay was designed to minimize explicit instruction, allowing players ample opportunity to figure out the puzzle rules on their own and experience moments of profound epiphany while exploring the island. The final game features a total of around 650 puzzles to solve, although players are not required to complete every single one to finish the game.
